spurns deposed judges restoration talks

ISLAMABAD—President Pervez Musharraf has emphasized that no suggestions
regarding the restoration of the judges is under consideration as the
judges who are currently performing their responsibilities are
respectable.
A close aide of President Pervez Musharraf has told newsmen that neither
he (Musharraf) sent any message to Co-Chairman of PPP, Asif Ali Zardari
nor any suggestion in this regard is under consideration. The president
strongly refuting media reports in this regard as fabricated, concocted
and Unfounded and said that without the constitutional amendments
approved in the Parliament with two-third majority no judge can be
restored, said the aide.
The Government would avoid adopting any unconstitutional step, he added.
It may be recalled that IANS had claimed that the Government is
considering seriously restoring the deposed judges if they do not hear
cases against him.
The close aide while quoting President Musharraf said that he (Musharraf)
respects the mandate given by the people in recently held General
Elections and no obstacles would be created for the party which showed
majority in the way of the formation of the Government The President
said that the session of the National Assembly would be convened after
the issuing of the notification of the successful candidates by the
Election Commission of Pakistan and no delay is being stipulated, the
close aide said.
The President while talking has clarified that he wants real democracy
in the country and power be transferred to majority party in a peaceful
manner.
Presidential spokesman Major General (r) Rashid Qureshi Friday said
President Pervez Musharraf, elected for five years, is ready to work
with the elected government and has no plan to resign. Talking to
newsmen, he said a planned campaign is being run in Pakistanimedia about
speculated resignation plan of the President which “is totally baseless
and unfounded.”
Only Mian Nawaz Sharif and so called civil society consisting of 100 or
200 people is clamouring about the president’s resignation, the
spokesman said, adding that parties that won the elections are ready to
work with thePresident. Nawaz Sharif kept repeating that he could not
work with the President, while the factual position is that he is not
elected from anywhere, thespokesman said.
Recently Pakistani media reported that US senator Biden and Chuck Hagel
on their return to America had stated that President Musharraf should
now think about honorable exit, but the worthy senators immediately
denied the news report, Qureshi said.
Also US senator John Kerry made it clear that senator Hagel did not ever
call for President Musharraf to step down.
In fact the whole world is praising the president for holding free, fair
transparent and peaceful elections in the country, he said.
The elected representatives should now form the government and take the
country forward, the spokesman said.
Attorney General Malik Mohammad Qayyum Friday denied media reports he
was considering resigning from the post he had assumed in August last
year. “I have no intention of resigning,” Malik Qayyum told, when his
comment on the reports was sought. Affirming his belief in “complete
freedom of media,” the Attorney General regretted speculative reports
without seeking any confirmation from him directly. “I appeared before
the Supreme Court benches even on Thursday in various cases and I will
also appear on Monday.”
Qayyum said there was no question of resigning, adding that he was the
principal law officer of the government and he continued to enjoy the
confidence of the President who was the appointing authority. |
