Unlikely contenders emerge as PPP undecided on PM

ISLAMABAD—Majority of Central Executive Council members of Pakistan
People’s Party have proposed the name of Ch Ahmed Mukhtar as the future
prime minister of the country.
Talking to newsmen said, neither a final decision has yet been taken nor
the party has made any announcement about this, howerer, a decision will
soon be taken in this regard.
The party CEC has discussed that the future prime minister should be
from Punjab. The names of Yusuf Raza Gilani and Shah Mahmood Qureshi
were also discussed.
Ch Ahmed Mukhtar who hails from Gujrat had defeated PML (Q) President Ch
Shujaat Hussain from his home constituency NA-105 by a considerable
margin.
Meanwhile it is learnt that name of Makhdoom Amin Faheem is no further
being considered for the office of the prime minister by the party.
Information Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sherry Rehman on
Friday revealed that no name for the slot of Premiership have been
finalized sofar, adding that, the Prime Minister can be appointed from
any province not only from Sindh.
Talking to newsmen she said, the name of candidate for the slot of
premiership would be announced within two days.
All the decision are being taken in the party followed by detail
consultation, she said, added, PPP is symbol of federation. Information
Secretary PPP Sherry Rehman said that Party would take all decision in
supreme national interest. The Party, she said, is mulling several names
including Amin Fahim for slot of Premiership while final decision would
be taken within two days.
It is not vital the next prime minister would belong from Sindh while it
can be from other province, she concluded.
A central leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar
has said that nomination of candidate for the post of prime minister
would be finalized by the party leadership.
Talking to media outside Zardari House on Friday, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar
said his name was also part of the media speculation about nomination of
premiership candidate.
“I neither endorse the speculation nor reject it,” he said in reply to a
question. “Well the names of Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Shah Mahmood Qureshi
and Yousuf Raza Gillani are also being talked about on the media” he
added.
He replied “No” when asked whether the party leadership had given him a
hint about possibility of giving him the responsibility.
Ahmed Mukhtar also replied in the negative to another query whether he
had been asked to stay in Islamabad.
