Symposium on liver diseases today

RAWALPINDI—All arrangements have been finalised to organise a mega
scientific event of Portal Hypertension “Bridging the Gap” symposium to
be held from March 1 to 2, at Foundation University Medical College,
here under the auspices of Pakistan Society for Study of Liver
Diseases.Chairman Organizing Committee Professor of Medicines Brig.
Masood Siddiq said that liver experts from all over the country would
read papers on vital issues relating to liver diseases. Rector
Foundation University Dr Manzoor Ahmed Khan will be the chief guest, he
said.
Giving details of the programme, he said that eminent experts from
different areas would deliver informative research papers to highlight
different aspects of the live diseases. Different sessions of the
sumposium would be chaired by Maj. Gen. Ashraf Ali Mallhi. Professor
Waseem Jafri will articulate on the topic of Portal Hypertensive
Syndrome “in the 21st Century”, Mr. Saeed Hamid will speak on the
subject of Molecular Mechanism and hemodynamic changes in Cirrhotic
Portal Hypertension and Mr. Masood Siddiq regarding “Is cirrhosis
reversible?”.
On the second day of symposium, first session will be chaired by Maj.
Gen Tassawar Hussain while Prof. Altaf Alam will deliver articles on
“Cirrhotic vs non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. How these differ?” and
Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi on “Should we endoscope every one with
clinical evidence of portal hypertension”.
The question answer session will be chaired by Prof. Sadiq Shah. In this
session Dr Muzzaffar Latif Gill will speak on Acute variceal bleed How
to go about it, Dr. Javed Aslm Butt would deliberate on Primary
prophylaxis of variceal bleed-Drugs versus Endoscopy, Dr. Nusarat Ullah
Choudry would present his research paper on Varceal bleed secondary
prophylaxsis and Dr. Noor-ul-Iman will talk about are antibiotics
helpful in afebrile patients with variceal bleed. The Second session
will be chaired by Prof Alam Zeb Manan while Prof. Najeeb-ul-Haq will
highlight the subject of “Management of Refractory Ascities”, Dr. A. A
Durrani, “When to suspect and how to manage spontaneous Bacterial
Peritonitis. |
