IGP, SSP among 21 police officials of
Capital suspended in 2007

ISLAMABAD—As many as 21 police officials includinga Inspector General of
Police and a SSP were suspended last year, according to the data of the
Interior Ministry.
“These officials including one IGP, one SSP, one DSP, three inspectors
and 14 Sub-Inspector were suspended for different reasons and were
punished under the law,” Caretaker Minister for Interior told the Upper
House of Parliament in a written reply.
Inspector General of Police Capt. ® S. Morawet Ali Shah PSP (BS-20) and
Senior Superintendent of Police Muhammad Naeem Khan were suspended as a
result of a clash with lawyers, media persons and members of Civil
Society with police, law enforcement agencies out side Supreme Court
building and in front of Election Commission of Pakistan on September
29, 2007.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan in Suo-Moto case No. 21 of 2007 directed
to suspend the officers immediately. The establishment division
suspended and subsequently reinstated the IGP on January 9 this year on
pursuance of Supreme Court’s judgement dated January 1, 2008. The SSP
was suspended and subsequently reinstated on 15 January in pursuance of
the Apex Court judgment dated January 2, 2008.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Khalid Rashid was suspended for alleged
use of police force against media persons at the site of suicide bomb
blast on 26 January, 2007 outside Marriott Hotel, Islamabad. He was
reinstated on March 3, 2007 without prejudice to the outcome of the
judicial enquiry conducted by the District and Session Judge, Islamabad.
Inspector Munir Ahmed was suspended due to absence from duty on 26
January, 2007 from the site of suicide bomb blast outside Marriott
Hotel, Islamabad.
He was reinstated in service without prejudice to the outcome of the
judicial enquiry conducted by the District and Session Judge, Islamabad.
Inspector Arif Hussain Shah was suspended due to inefficiency and poor
performance, while posted as SHO Police Station-I Areas due to
increasing car theft crime in this jurisdiction. He was reinstated in
service by the SSP Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) without prejudice
of the final outcome of enquiry. The 14 Sub-Inspector (SIs) were
suspended for different reasons including misbehaviour, disobedience,
involvement in criminal case, absence from duty, traffic violation,
killing of one accused in custody, on receipt of complaints against them
and negligence.
12 Sub-Inspector have been reinstated after punishment, while one is
waiting for Show cause notice and other for court verdict.
These included SIs Muhammad Younus, Ghulam Rasool, Fida Hussain,
Muhammad Arshad, Lal Din, Muhammd Hussain, Muhammad Aslam Muhammad Ejaz,
Muhammad Rafique, Nasar Ullah, Mazhar-ul-Haq, Yar Muhammad, Mehbood
Abbasi, Muhammad Irfan and Muhammad Jamil. |
