India moves troops to Chinese border

NEW DELHI—New Delhi has said troops have been moved to Chinese border near the tri-junction with Bhutan, stressing this was routine “operational requirements”.
“Movement of troops by the army is carried out as a routine based on operational requirement,” Defence Minister A K Antony told Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question on whether Army had moved 6,000 troops to the Chinese border amid reports of intrusions near the Bhutanese border. The Defence Minister clarified that the pullout of troops from Jammu and Kashmir, for this purpose, has been effected after careful study of the militant activity in the region.
Though Antony admitted that the situation in Pakistan does have an impact on the level of infiltrations into Jammu and Kashmir, he assured the house that “no deluge of militants from across was expected”. “Some form of uncelebrated and uncontrolled infiltration can be expected to ease out pressure from Pakistan,” he said.—Agencies
