Independent HRCP soon in section: Burney

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney has said that an independent Human Rights Commission will soon be established. A summary for establishment of HR Commission has already been sent to the President and a Presidential Ordinance is expected very soon.
Mr. Burney was talking to the Swedish ambassador to Pakistan Ms. Anna Karin who called on the Minister here on Thursday.
Mr. Ansar Burney said that the proposed Human Rights commission will consist of 14 members. It will have one member each from the four provincial units, two members from National Assembly, two members from Senate, two members will be taken from women one member from Federal Capital and one member will be taken from FATA. The Minister said that the Human Rights Commission will include no political participation. He said that the government is giving much importance to the human rights protection.
He said that sports facilitation for refugees are being arranged in collaboration with the Ministry of sports. Ansar Burney said that his Ministry has arranged for the five of prisoners who have completed their imprisonment but were not released due to lacking of fine amount. The Swedish Ambassador appreciated the efforts of the Government of Pakistan and the Minister Ansar Burney for protection of human rights in Pakistan.—Online
