President has always kept up his promises: Memon
By Ali Imran

Islamabad—The Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon said on Wednesday that President Musharraf has always kept his promises made to the nation. The Minister was talking to the Egyptian Ambassador Hussein Kamel Haridy who called on him today.
He said the President established the local government system and held two elections for the local bodies. Similarly, the President held two senate and two National Assembly elections. He said the promise of becoming a civilian president was also kept.
Nisar Memon said the terrorists tried to sabotage the elections but all their designs were thwarted by the neutral caretaker government. He said there were rumours of postponement of election after the unfortunate killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto as 30 Provincial Assembly and 15 National Assembly constituencies were affected by the riots. But the President was firm in his resolve to hold elections. He said today, the whole world is acknowledging the free elections and the UN General Secretary has also appreciated the holding of free and fair election.
Terrorism is a curse for the whole humanity and no religion permitted killing of innocent people. The terrorists are misguided people and they did not spare even a Hafiz-i- Quran Lt. Gen. Mushtaq Baig.
While holding elections, law and order was a big issue, but with help of army, rangers and police, and the people of Pakistan, elections were held peacefully.
Talking about Pakistan-Egypt brotherly relations, the minister said the countries shared a common cultural heritage. He said an Egyptian media delegation will be visiting Pakistan from March 2 to 9 on the invitation of Islamabad Policy Research Institute and he would like to exchange views with the visiting delegation.
He said the media is working freely and the caretaker government has awarded licenses to 13 to new TV channels. The Egyptian Ambassador Hussein Kamel Haridy congratulated the government and the people of Pakistan for holding peaceful and fair elections. He said the President had fulfilled his promise of holding fair election and hoped the democratic process would help fighting terrorism in Pakistan.
He said Pakistan is a great nation and will be able to conquer the menace of terrorism as did Egypt. He said a similar situation was faced by his nation in which Egypt suffered losses of life and property but was successful in fighting and overcoming it. The ambassador said Egypt will extend all support to the upcoming government in Pakistan.
Terming the Pakistan media as vibrant and free he congratulated the caretaker information minister for carrying out a successful media campaign urging peoples’ participation in election.
He said some Egyptian investors were interested in investing in Pakistan and he will work with those investors and will help increase Egyptian investment in Pakistan.
The ambassador said there was not difference of opinion that Islam and democracy were compatible.
