National Symposium on Nano Science & Catalysis
Staff Report
Islamabad—A two days national symposium on Nano Science and Catalysis is
being arranged jointly by National Centre for Physics (NCP) and Chemical
society of Pakistan on March 24 - 25, 2008 at the Earth Sciences
Auditorium located at Quaid-e-Azam University.
The main purpose of this symposium is to bring together Scientists,
Engineers, Technologists, and Students to familiarize them with the
future areas of immense development. The workshop will consist of
invited lectures by Eminent Scientists/Engineers and Specialists. The
opening address will be delivered by Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, Chairman HEC.
The two days workshop is first of its kind in Pakistan. This symposium
will address various aspects of Nano Science and Catalysis like
molecularly designed Syntheses Protocol, Characterization and Evaluation
for its industrial applications. Industrial Representatives will also
participate in the workshop and proper discussion session will be
arranged with the expert panels in order to evolve strategies for
industrial applications.
Advanced materials composites of inorganic nano particles and catalysis
currently are one of the most dynamic areas of scientific research.
These materials represent significant fundamental and commercial
interest with a variety of applications in optics, electronics, sensors,
drugs, energy, and environment. The symposium is being arranged under
the patronage of National Center for Physics which is headed by Dr.
Riaz-ud-din, Director General NCP and Dr. Syed Tajammul Hussain as
organizing secretary. The deadline for the registration of participants
is March 5, 2008. Registration form and workshop schedule can be
downloaded from www.ncp.edu.pk.
The main aim of National Center for Physics (NCP) is to facilitate the
researchers in field of Physics as NCP is equipped with up to date
facilities and well trained human resources. NCP is collaborating with
international universities and industries to develop useful materials
for industrial applications. Institute of Nano Science & Catalysis has
developed five state of the art patents in fields of Medicines, Energy,
Environment and Food processing. These patents have been registered with
United States Patent & Trademark Office at USA.
Besides arranging annual events like International Nathiagali Summer
College (INSC) and International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences
& Technology (IBCAST), NCP had already arranged many seminars,
workshops, training courses, short courses and invited talks in which
national as well as international eminent scientists and academicians
from the field of Physics participated. Currently 15 research scientists
and three post Doctoral fellows are part of regular faculty of NCP while
more than 15 internationally acclaimed researchers are part of adjunct
faculty. A total of 17 students are registered with NCP out of which
eight are registered for M. Phil program while remaining nine students
are registered for PhD. |
