Complete shutter down strike against drug act

RAWALPINDI—On the call of All Pakistan Drugs and Chemist Association Punjab, all the traders on Wednesday observed complete shutter down strike throughout the Province against amendment in drug act by caretaker Chief Minister Punjab.
Beside Bohar Bazaar, one of the major chemist markets in Rawalpindi, All the chemist shops in 36 districts of Punjab were closed. The patients and their relatives had to face severe difficulties due to closure of chemist shops situated adjacent to Holy Family hospital, Rawalpindi General Hospital, Cantonment hospital and District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi.
There was also tension between nursing staff and doctors in aforementioned hospitals due to shutter down strike of traders. According to doctors, we cannot provide all medicines to patients during emergency, as the pharmacy of hospitals lack some injection and medicines. On the other hand, Chairman Punjab Drugs and Chemist Association Arshad Mehmood Awan has made it clear we will consider to close all major and minor markets of chemist around the Province if Punjab Government did not abolish new drug rules 2007.
He demanded Punjab Government to abolish new drug rules 2007 immediately otherwise soon he will make announcement of shutter down strike till unidentified period of time. Meanwhile, the Patients and their relatives also appealed to Punjab Government to fulfil the demand of Punjab Drugs and Chemist Association for the welfare of masses.—Agencies
