442 terrorists arrested in 3 months: Cheema

ISLAMABAD—Spokesperson of the Interior Ministry Brig (retd) Javed Iqbal
Cheema has said that the Law Enforcing Agencies in the last three months
has arrested 442 terrorists and militants from all over the country.
Addressing in the weekly briefing here on Tuesday, the Spokesperson of
the Interior Ministry said that 140 terrorists have surrendered
voluntarily while 17 were arrested from Punjab, 26 from Sindh, 13 from
NWFP and 122 from Balochistan.
The Spokesperson further informed that in February, 264 people were
arrested in the ongoing operation in Swat and huge quantity of arms and
ammunition were recovered from the arrested terrorists.
Brig (retd) Javed Iqbal Cheema has said that 8 persons including Lt-Gen
Mushtaq Baig, surgeon-general and director general of the army’s Medical
Services were martyred in blast occurred at Mall Road, Rawalpindi on
Monday.
He said that the terrorist act was committed after one week of the
holding of free, fair and transparent elections aimed to destabilize the
country.
The Government of Pakistan, President and Caretaker Prime Minister and
all the cabinet have strongly condemned that cowardly act and expressed
their grieve and sorrow with the families of the victims. Javed Iqbal
Cheema said that a high level investigation team headed by CPO
Rawalpindi Saud Aziz has been formed to probe Monday’s blast. The
experts belonging from other investigation agencies and Special
Investigation of FIA were included in the team.
Reiterating the Government’s resolve to continue the war on terror and
elimination of scourge of terrorism, Brig (retd) Javed Iqbal Cheema said
that the Government would book the culprits involved in the Pindi blast.
He further said that the Government has beefed up the security in all
over the country and orders to intensify the security have been given to
all the concerned departments.
Commenting on the suicide attack on the office of ANP in which four
officials of an NGO and a woman were martyrdom, he said that the attack
reflects that the terrorists are also enemy of those who are working for
the welfare of the humanity.
The Spokesperson of the Interior Ministry said that the NWFP Government
has started its investigation to book the people involved in this
heinous act. He said that it is the responsibility of the Government to
provide the security to the people who are receiving life threat from
terrorists and the responsibility would be fulfilled. |
