ANP eyes CM NWFP slot

PESHAWAR—President of ANP Senator Asfandyar Wali Khan Monday declared
that his party would occupy the slot of Chief Minster in the next
government in the NWFP being the single largest political entity emerged
after the February 18 polls.
The winning political entities in the country lacked two third majority
to impeach the President while in the senate, the polls victors have not
even simple majority. Therefore, thinking about President’s impeachment
from the parliament at this stage was contrary to the ground realities.
Briefing newsmen after holding a meeting of the special committee of the
party here at Baacha Khan Markaz, the ANP leader said, the ANP would
form the next government in the Frontier Province with PPPP as its
coalition partner.
He informed that the special committee endorsed decisions of the party
viz a viz formation of the government in the NWFP with PPPP, and issues
settled during his meeting with Co-Chariman PPPP Asif Ali Zardari.
He maintained that nominating parliamentary head of the party in the
NWFP assembly was the prerogative of the new parliamentary party and it
would take the decision about the same. He clarified that the ANP and
PPPP will work as coalition partners in the Center and the Province. The
ANP will support the PPPP in the Federal Government.
He further told that both the parties have agreed on core issues of
judiciary, law and order and provincial autonomy. Asfandyar Wali Khan
said, ANP and PPPP would form various committees after his meeting with
Asif Ali Zardari due for Tuesday (Feb.26) at Islamabad to chalk-out
detailed strategy of the future setup.
