Australian
security team due next month: Nasim
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD—Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Dr. Nasim Ashraf has
said that Australian security team is due in Pakistan early next month
ahead of their team’s tour of this country.
“The Australian team will be here in the first week of March”, he was
quoted as saying in a report. “The team will assess security
arrangements at venues of their team’s matches in Pakistan”, he said.
He said chances of Australian cricket team touring Pakistan next month
have brightened after peaceful polls in this country. “We have already
told the Cricket Australia that there is no security problem in this
country”
Nasim Ashraf said that Australian team would arrive in Pakistan in the
last week of next month. However, the schedule of matches will be
finalised after security team’s visit.
He said PCB has told Cricket Australia that South African, Zimbabwean,
Australia A and Australia Under-19 cricket teams had already toured
Pakistan and there was no security threat to Pakistan.
PCB, meanwhile, is contemplating to organize mini one-day series against
different teams including India.
Security team of Australia has agreed to review the security
arrangements at Pakistani grounds after the peaceful elections in the
country. Venues of the matches would be decided after the arrival of
security team, PCB Chairman added. Cricket Australia reiterated
commitment to tour Pakistan in a meeting of the cricket officials of the
two countries in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week, he said. |
