A roadside bomb ripped through a vehicle carrying wedding guests in
northwestern Pakistan Friday, killing at least eight people and wounding
a dozen others, the interior ministry said. The blast in the troubled
Swat Valley, where Islamist militants linked to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban
are active, was the first since Pakistan held largely peaceful
parliamentary elections on Monday. “The vehicle was carrying people from
a wedding ceremony when it was hit by an improvised explosive device in
Swat region,” interior ministry spokesman Brigadier Javed Cheema
