Babar down plays sympathy votes

ISLAMABAD—Central leader of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Senator Babar Awan Friday said that his party would have secured more seats had Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto not been assassinated.
Talking to newsmen Senator Babar said that people of Pakistan had rejected the propaganda of certain elements against Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto by according her a historic welcome in Karachi on her arrival to the country. She started a momentous election campaign for her party but unfortunately she was removed from the scene by the hidden hands, he said adding after addressing Rawalpindi meeting BB was scheduled to take her campaign to central Punjab.
Babar said PPPP is not interested in formation of government rather its objective is a type of governance that could usher change in line with wishes of the people. Asif Ali Zardari has said “we are interested in governance and not in government”, he added.
He said PPPP wants to take all democratic forces on board to ensure good governance in the country. To a question he said PML Q is not a political party rather it is a bunch of people assembled together to safeguard their personal interests. Babar said that his party leadership had made no contact with PML Q as well as President Musharraf.
He said that democratic forces in the country are expected to move ahead in line with people’s aspiration at this crucial stage.
Responding to a question regarding restoration of pre-November 3 judiciary the Senator said, it is an important point on the agenda of his party saying the first priority of the party is to get probed the assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto by credible investigators. He said the future parliament will deal with all contentious issues efficiently.
