Ministry to receive $2.4m for population grogrammes

ISLAMABAD—United Nations Population Fund will provide US$ 2.4 million to Ministry of Population Welfare for effective implementation of its programmes during the current year, across the country.
The country representative of UNFPA Dr. France Donnay and Muhammad Sharif, Secretary Ministry of Population Welfare signed the Annual Work Plan to this effect here on Thursday.
Dr. Donnay said the fund would be utilized for implementation of Reproductive health and Family Planing activities in 10 focused districts including Manshera, Kohat, Chakwal, Muzaffargarh, Qilla Saifullah, Chaghi, jacobabad, Thatta, Kotli and Muzaffarabad.
The major activities of Annual Plan 2008 include, training, integrated quality Primary health Care, reproductive health, family planning series though mobile service units in remote areas, advocacy and community awareness, procurement of contraceptives for Green Star, improved management system for programme delivery and sensitization of political as well as religious leaders on population and development issues, France Donnay said.
She said the goal of the UNFPA Programme was to improve the reproductive health status of the people of Pakistan leading towards population stabilization and sustainable human development.
Secretary of the Population Welfare said the activities of the said plan would be jointly implemented by Ministry of Population Welfare Provincial Population Welfare Departments and UNFPA at federal, provincial and district levels.
The activities of the Annual Work Plan-2008 have been jointly identified by the Ministry of Population Welfare and UNFPA and were discussed in Steering Committee meeting.
The Steering Committee approved the Annual Work Plan 2008 with the direction that efforts should be made to undertake the envisaged activities and utilize the allocation for achieving improved reproductive health of the target population by focusing on core programmatic interventions.
Federal Minister for Population Welfare, Porf. Dr. A.J. Khan and officials of the ministry’s programme wing also witnessed the signing ceremony.
The goal of the UNFPA Programme is to improve the reproductive health status of the people of Pakistan loading towards population stabilization and sustainable human development. The activities of the said plan would be jointly implemented by Ministry of Population Welfare/Provincial Population Welfare Departments and UNFPA at federal, provincial and district levels.
