I will quit politics not on defeat: Rashid

RAWALPINDI—Former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad while giving indication for formation of new political party has said Lal Masjid operation, gas and electricity crisis and wrong policies of government have led to his defeat in the general elections;
In an exclusive interview with a private TV channel Sheikh Rashid said he was going to lay foundation of new politics and “I will lead a full fledged political life”.
“It is my acute desire all the development projects announced by me for Rawalpindi are completed. May be I form a new ;party or do this work while staying in my party. I will take this decision with passage of time. I will contest the next elections with full force whenever they take place and clinch victory. I will say adieu politics not over my defeat but at the peak of my political career”, he announced.
Listing Lal Masjid operation, flour, gas and power crisis and some policies of President Musharraf as causes contributing to his defeat he said “ my countless posters were torn out on the occasion of Lal Masjid operation and a storm was raised and when our turn to seek votes came then the whole country was gripped by atta, gas and electricity crisis”, he added.
There are certain decisions, which are taken being invincible while staying in the government, but people have to be taken into confidence but “ we could not get any opportunity to do so, he remarked. There are certain policies and decisions of President Musharraf due to which his support led to our defeat, he added.
He said, he would soon announce the decision whether he would form a new political party or continue his association with PML-Q.
Sheikh Rashid added that he would never leave the country and continue his political activities in Rawalpindi.
