Fair elections great victory for country: Memon

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar Memon said Tuesday that the “independently conducted” elections were a great victory for the country, people and democracy.
Talking to newsmen he said it looks great for the country.
Nisar Memon recalled that there was a lot of talk whether the elections would be held or not. But the 18 February election took place. They were by and large peaceful. The world has watched it, and seen the difference, he said. Also, there was talk about a massive tilt on one side or another.” We have seen the results now”, he said, adding that they have been independently conducted. They were fair, free and transparent elections watched bythousands of cameras; thousands of the observers throughout the country. The result show the will of the people, and “ it should be acceptable to all”, he said.
It is a great victory for Pakistan, people of Pakistan, democracy and President Musharraf, he said and added that the credit for it also went to President Musharraf who has delivered on all his promises of the fair election on the path to democracy, Memon said.
Asked to comment on some reports of irregularities Nisar Memon said, he heard some irregularities coming in from different parties. But he said, it is a normal thing in such a big process. However, the world has watched the transparent elections, he added.
Memon said, the US Senators and EU observers have seen these positive things. “ I think these are very positive, and this augurs well for democracy and for the country”, he added.
To a question regarding election results, Memon said, as far the country’s parties are concerned, “ I think this is the will of the people, and should be acceptable to all”.
