Sanguine mood prevails in Capital

ISLAMABAD—A sanguine mood coupled with optimistic thoughts hover the Capital in the post-election scenario.
Soon after completion of election results, the whole atmosphere is abuzz with public opinion about the impacts of elections on the political situation of the country.
The bitterness and the difference of opinion among the supporters of political parties have suddenly evaporated, giving way to sense of reconciliation and unity. Still, motorcades of enthusiastic supporters can be seen moving on city roads, some mounting on their roofs with fluttering flags and chanting slogans.
The beams of joy and hope on their sunny faces are indication of the general mood which is being witnessed throughout the country. Majority of the residents were of the opinion that outcome of thegeneral elections would be a milestone in the country’s democratic process.
They termed holding of elections, in a situation when the country is fighting scourge of terrorism, a good omen for the country’s future.
Nasir Jamal, a professor in Sector G-9, said that it was expected that outcome of the elections would be in line with public desires. “Public want a continuity in the democratic process, so the next government whoever forms, should work to ameliorate public agonies,” he added. Rukhsana Roshan, a university student and resident of Sector F-7, said that everyone attaches high hopes with the upcoming government. She said “It is not a new thing, but after certain process, hopes usually soar high for a better tomorrow.”
Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, Executive Director Pakistan Institute for Development and Transparency (PILDAT), said the elections had provided ample opportunities to different political parties to test their popularity. He expressed the hope that pre-elections and post-elections scenario would definitely go a long way in strengthening the democratic process.
Imadad Hussain, a 70-year old freelance writer, said that he had seen a number of elections in his life. “The just concluded elections has significance in this perspective that the whole nation in unison was resolute to defeat all forces of evil including terrorism,” he added.
Jabbar Hassan, a local political leader, said that it is a welcoming and heartening to hear that political leaders are accepting election results and congratulating each other over successes.
