Fazal sees NRO shadow over polls

LAHORE—Alleging immense rigging in Monday’s elections, Chief of Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) and Secretary General Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the results seemed to be in line with National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
Talking to Maulana Muhammad Amjad Khan via telephone, the former Opposition Leader in the National Assembly said that the reservations expressed before elections were observed in the electoral process.
He said that several candidates of MMA have given information regarding rigging and it did occur in some constituencies including his own constituency but MMA despite of all its reservations accept the decision.
The Secretary General MMA congratulated Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League - N over their success in General Elections.
He told that decision regarding future role in the politics would be taken in the next few days, adding that the next Government would face several international and national challenges.
Commenting on the boycott of All Parties Democratic Movement (MMA), Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the nation by participating vigorously in the elections paid no attention on the boycott call.
Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and MMA’s general secretary, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, has felicitated Pakistan People’s Party and PML-Nawaz over their success in the general elections-2008.
According to a media release, he said this in a telephonic conversation with Maulana Mohammed Amjad Khan of JUI on Tuesday Feb 19. He said JUI’s role for the country’s politics would be clear in the next few days. Maulana Fazal lauded that the nation actively participated in the elections, saying people’s decision is completely acceptable to him and his party.
