Polls on 4 NA, 8 PAs seats put off
ISLAMABAD—Elections have not been held in 4 constituencies of National
Assembly (NA), 5 of Punjab Assembly and 3 of NWFP mainly due to death of
candidates and the Election Commission (EC) has issued orders for
postponement of elections under section 18 of Peoples Act 1976.
The elections were postponed in NA-207 Larkana cum Shikarpur due to
assassination of Benazir Bhutto, in NA-119 Lahore due to death of PML-Q
candidate Tariq Banday, in NA-42 tribal area-7 and NA-37 tribal area 2
due to deteriorating law and order situation. Election Commission
postponed elections in the constituencies of Punjab Assembly (PA)
including PP-99 Gujranwala owing to death of PPP candidate Nasir Mehmood
Sindhu, PP-70 due to death of Chaudhry Asghar Ali, candidate of Pakistan
Ghareeb Party, PP-141 Lahore-4 due to death of PML-Q candidate Tariq
Banday, PP-171 Nankana-2 due to death of Arshid Ali Arshid and PP-145
Lahore -18 due to death of PML-N candidate, Chaudhry Asif Ashraf.
The orders were issued for postponement of elections on 3 seats of NWFP
assembly including PF-59 Batgram due to death of JUI-F candidate Haji
Muhammad Ayyaz Khan, PF-81 Swat-2 due to killing of PML candidate.
