Justice system should focus on cases of weaker segments of society: CJ
By Saad Saud

ISLAMABAD—Chief Justice of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar has said all the stake holders of justice system should focus on cases of weaker segments of society.
He said this while addressing inauguration ceremony of the Islamabad High Court here Tuesday. He held two components of the profession of law including he judges and the lawyers each are a very busy community. The cycle of their engagements breaks nowhere because they work in a noble profession. All the judges, and all the lawyers, who work with a passion for justice and with a passion to ameliorate the sufferings of the litigant public, women, the juveniles and other prisoners in jails and families of the poor litigants earn for themselves a reward in this world, and still a greater reward in the world hereafter.
Establishment of a High Court for the Islamabad Capital Territory, called the Islamabad High Court, the lawyers and litigants of the Capital of Pakistan is a matter of delight as it was very odd that there was no High Court in the Capital of Pakistan, he said adding in the recent past neighbouring country India established High Court in its capital New Delhi.
He maintained the litigation has increased enormously adding the need is there to thoroughly examine the causes for such increase and address the same at appropriate levels. There is also a need to keep the institutions to a manageable size and proportion. Mostly the institutions continue to expand and enlarge, and become difficult to manage, he added.
He stressed that the real challenge before the High Court itself is to find ways and means to keep pace with time. It has to endeavour to keep itself abreast of modern developments, and address the challenges of time. It has to visualize and plan for the future.
He said provision of adequate infrastructure in terms of building, office equipment, strength of judges and staff, no doubt is the basic need of the system of administration of justice adding mere provision of facilities will not do. What is needed is a passion for work, he stressed.
“ we all are public servants. Only the forms of service are different. We are accountable before Allah Almighty and before the nation through the respective institutions. Let us inculcate in ourselves a sense of self-accountability”, he remarked.
Through hard work and with a sincerity of purpose hurdles in the way of the achievement of noble cause of quick dispensation of justice can be overcome, he urged.
