Govt successful in ensuing conduct of peaceful polls, says Hamid

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Minister for Interior Lt. Gen (R) Hamid Nawaz Khan
said Monday that the government had very successfully ensured conduct of
peaceful polling in the general elections. Due to the security
arrangements made for voters and polling no serious untoward incident
was reported from any part of the country, he said while talking to
media persons during his visit to polling stations in twin cities of
Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
He said a few incidents of gun firing and confrontation were reported
from some constituencies in the country. “Such incidents had also taken
place in the past. However, noserious untoward incident or terrorist
activity has been reported from any part of the country.”
The Minister said people polled their votes in free and fair manner and
nobody was influenced by any person or by any means. Hamid Nawaz said
there was no chance of rigging in the elections, adding that the
transparent ballot boxes were to be opened in the presence of polling
agents and the result would be issued after their signatures.
The Minister visited polling station in Said Pur village and Federal
Government Girls school in Rawalpindi. Secretary Interior Syed Kamal
Shah was also present on the occasion. Expressing satisfaction over the
security arrangements during the elections, Caretaker Federal Interior
Minister Lt. Gen. (Retd) Hamid Nawaz has said that isolated clashes
between candidates and supporters of different Political Parties is a
common incident on the occasion.
Talking to media men during visit of Polling station in constituency NA
49 Islamabad, he said, no one would be allowed to create disturbance in
the elections, as caretaker Government wants elections in peaceful
atmosphere. Federal Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah, Chief
Commissioner Islamabad Hamid Ali Khan, Inspector General Islamabad
Shahid Nadeem Baloch and other authorities were present on the occasion.
Government, the caretaker interior minister said, has taken
extraordinary security measures to ensure law and order situation in the
country during polls.
There was no major incident of violence in the country during the
polling day, he said, adding that, there is no rigging in the elections
and no justification about outcome of unexpected elections result.
Rejecting the news about bomb blast in Quetta, Caretaker Federal
Interior Minister Lt. Gen. (Retd) Hamid Nawaz it was rumors to frighten
the people. He said the results would be announced in the presence of
election commission and candidates followed by counting of vote.
In current era, it is not possible to deploy fake Police Personnel at
Polling stations, as we have complete record of personnel deputed at the
station, he concluded. |
