New toll plazas to enrich beauty of highways: Lashari

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Kamran Lashari has said that the construction of electronic toll plaza are aimed at streamlining toll revenue in line with the traffic volumes and provide improved facilities to the road users.
Addressing a groundbreaking ceremony of modern and electronic toll plaza held here on Wednesday, Chairman CDA said that new toll plazas would enrich the beauty of the highways and would also avoid the queuing of vehicles in the toll lanes. These toll plazas would be constructed on main highways including Kashmir Highway, I.J Principal Road and Islamabad Highway.
The Chairman CDA said that contractors have been directed to complete the project within due time of 6 months. The plazas would have a Control Room external landscaping, external electrification, sub station building and power distribution including standby arrangements.
CDA has hired the services of M/S Toll Link for construction of two toll plazas on Islamabad Highway and I.J Principal Road. M/S Signage Security System has been awarded the contract a toll plaza Kashmir Highway.
The project would be executed in three phases, the first phase including immediate take over with well-trained staff for manual toll collection, in second phase includes the construction of Weigh Bridges toll plaza and in third phase the company would install electronic toll collection and security cameras system.
Under the agreement, the company would bear the entire cost of project including cost of construction, supply and installation of equipment, operation management, etc. CDA will provide appropriate land. A concession period of five years will be given to company to collect the toll as per approved rates after which the facility is to be returned to CDA.
The Chairman CDA on the occasion said that the Authority has also started work on widening of Islamabad Highway and Kashmir Highway as both main roads would be developed in five-lane roads.
