White Paper on Nawaz Sharif
Bureau Report
LAHORE—Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Tuesday unveiled a 22-Point White
Paper on the corruption and malpractices committed by former Prime
Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif. Central Vice President of the PML Senator
Muhammad Ali Durrani, flanked by party leaders Senator Kamil Ali Agha
and others, released the white paper here at the PML House at a crowded
press conference.
The white paper narrated the two tenures of PML-N Chief as Premier and
once as Chief Minister an era filled with corrupt practices, plunder of
the national exchequer and gross misconduct. “The personality of the
two-time Prime Minister (Nawaz Sharif) reflects him as a ‘failed
politician’ who, throughout his reign, remained busy in corruption,
fraudulent and misdemeanor activities. He is an autocrat with no
relation to democratic norms and traditions. His each tenure in the helm
of affairs was more dishonest than the previous one. His malpractices
not only swayed away the economic structure of the state but also made
the lives of poor disastrous. Even some individuals had to commit
self-immolation during his second tenure as premier. With a design to
weaken the state institutions, he even ordered an attack on the Supreme
Court building and this heinous act also reflects the blatant attempts
to destabilize other leading state institutions including that of the
armed forces,” said Senator Durrani.
He alleged that the former prime minister also hatched a conspiracy to
kill the then army chief on October 12, 1999 while Nawaz Sharif also
made an attempt to divide the institutions of Pakistan Army. He said
that the PML-N Chief looted the poor Pakistanis in the name of ‘Qarz
utaro Mulk Sanwaro Campaign’ while he also seized the foreign currency
accounts and deprive the Pakistani expatriates of their hard earned
capital.
“When the courts awarded him sentences for his crimes, the Sharifs made
an underhand deal with the help of a friendly country and left his
country, his party, followers, sympathizers and even comrades in lurch,”
he said. “Now when the country has regained its lost pride, grace,
economic uplift, respect and taken to the development course, the
plunderers are back to repeat the past practices. But they do not know
that during the past eight years, the masses have been empowered and
they are conscious and cognizant enough to their past and they would
defeat them on February 18,” said the upbeat Durrani.
Senator Durrani said the facts reported in the white paper had been
acknowledged internationally and they were never been challenged by
anyone in any court of law. He asked the Sharif to explain his position
on the points raised by him in the white paper.
Senator Durrani asserted that Mian Nawaz Sharif, during his tenure as
Chief Minister Punjab from 1988-90, deprived the provincial departments
of Rs. 15.35 billion. He said that the Auditor General Report released
in the year 1988 said that Mian Nawaz Sharif, misusing his authority as
Chief Minister Punjab, issued directives which resulted into direct
malpractice of Rs. 35 billion. The report said that the Chief Minister
Secretariat had been turned out to be a ‘hub of corrupt practices’ and
the Sharif wasted the public money like an ‘emperor’ that resulted into
huge fiscal deficit of the province.
The Auditor General Report released in the year 1986 said that the then
Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif had used Rs. 120 Crore for malpractices in
only one year. It further said that Nawaz Sharif allotted 3000 precious
LDA plots among his favorites due to which the provincial assets
suffered loss of billions of rupees.
“Nawaz Sharif ordered the CBR to issue several CBRs due to which got Rs.
40 Crore.
