Isa Jan off to Rome for IFAD moot

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL), Prince Muhammad Isa Jan Baloch left here for Rome to participate in the two-day annual 31st session of the governing council of International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) which will start on Wednesday (Feb 13) in Rome, Italy.
The challenges and opportunities for small farmers due to climatic change and new demands for increasing agricultural productivity would be on agenda of the meeting, a statement of MINFAL said. The council, in its three sessions would discuss new challenges and opportunities for the small farmers on Thursday (Feb. 14). The council would focus on how poor rural people could be helped to face a new magnitude of climate change. It would also deliberate on finding ways for the rural poor to take benefit from mitigation mechanisms so that they could be paid for the environmental services they provide. Since 1978, the IFAD supported 22 projects in Pakistan with loans, amounting to US $ 422.6 million.—Online
