Staff
Report
  ISLAMABAD—Inspector
General of National Highways and Motorways Police Mr. Raffat Pasha has
said that the negligent driving and illiteracy of traffic discipline
were the main causes of highway accidents in Pakistan and more than
16,500 lives are in road accidents annually, countrywide.
Speaking at the Emergency Life Support Skills Course for the personnel
of National Highways and Motorway Police, here at Pakistan Institute of
Medical Science (PIMS) on Tuesday the NH&MP Chief said that the
situation in Pakistan was however better if drawn a comparison with the
neighboring countries. He however observed that there was still enough
room available to make some serious efforts to bring about visible
attitudinal changes and to make road users more responsible, coupled
with stress on education and awareness backed strict enforcement. He
said that NH&MP was also working closely on the issues of road safety
and it has done a great job in the direction of traffic management,
accident reduction, accident handling and educating the masses. “The
desired Zero Accident Policy cannot be achieved until the culture of
safe driving is promoted across the country”, he asserted.
NH&MP Chief stated that on completion of 10 years of dedicated service,
National Highways and Motorway Police chalked out numerous Road Safety
Programs to achieve excellence in this direction. He said that to
provide timely and efficient First Aid service to the victims of road
accidents, NH&MP has been taking a variety of initiatives including
setting of a mini Trauma Centre at Kamra from its own resources while
efforts were being made to establish a state-of-the-art and fully
equipped Trauma Centre at Chakri and Bhera. He expressed his hope that
these Trauma Centers would play vital role in saving precious lives in
case of accidents. He expressed that these steps would bring in a
revolution in the field of Road Safety and the rate of causalities in
the road accidents would tumble down to the maximum. “Our officers are
fully trained to handle any kind of accident. However refresher courses
are very vital. We are very thankful to PIMS authorities for making
special arrangements on giving Trauma handling training courses to our
officers to make them capable of efficient and proper handling of
accidents,” asserted Pasha.
It may be mentioned here that NH&MP has sent around 4000 field officer
to get this special Trauma Handling courses. These officers would be
comprehensively trained to provide accurate and rapid first aid service
and Trauma assistance to the victims of road accidents. The general
public as termed this initiative as a spectacular and far sighted step
on part of the top leadership of NH&MP. It is expected that through such
steps, NH&MP would gain immense success in saving human lives during
road accidents. |
