Govt to develop new city at Balakot

ISLAMABAD—The government has initiated a number of development projects costing billions of rupees including subsequent development and maintenance of new city at Balakot. The Planning Commission sources told APP that Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC ) has approved New Balokot City Development Project (NBCDP) with a total cost of Rs.12000.000 million with a foreign exchange component (FEC) Rs.7800.000 million. They said that in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2007-08 Rs.35.000 million have been allocated for the project. The sources added that the Project Management Unit (PMU) under Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) will implement the project. They further said that for subsequent development and maintenance of new city, the NWFP Government will establish Balakot Development Authority. The scope of Umbrella PC-I includes 17 sub-projects of infrastructure development and amenity buildings, with construction in 5 years under two phases.
