President calls for modern technological revolution

KARACHI—President Pervez Musharraf has said that the development of road
network and introduction modern technology to the industrial sector can
pave the way for speedy development of the country and prosperity of the
nation.
Addressing the joint inaugural ceremony of Lyari Expressway project and
Karachi Tools Dies and Moulds Centre here on Monday, the President said
by linking education with the industry and poverty alleviation with job
opportunities can change the destiny of the people.
He said the government by introducing a number of mega road projects is
linking all the provinces into a chain to promote trade and industrial
activities. He said Northern Bypass and Lyari Expressway initiated by
him are very beneficial for the people of Karachi. He said the
government is also giving importance to engineering and technology
sector. He pointed out that nine modern Engineering Universities are
also being established in the country to produce highly qualified
engineers. The President unveiled the plaques of the Lyari Expressway
and Karachi Tools Dies and Moulds Centre. He was briefed by the
authorities about technical details of the project.
Earlier, Chairman National Highway Authority Major General Imtiaz Ahmed
and Chairman KTDMC Munir K. Bana in their address of welcome highlighted
the detail, objectives and benefit of two projects. The sixteen
kilometer long southern portion of Lyari Expressway has been completed
at a cost of eight billion rupees in five years.
The ceremony was also attended by the Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat ul Ibad
Khan, caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Abdul Qadir Halepota,
Federal Minister for communication, Barrister Prof. Habib ur Rehman and
City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal.
President Pervez Musharraf has asked the Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim
Authority, Pakistan Steel Mills as well as the City and Sindh
governments to instal desalination and power generation plants in the
provincial metropolis.He was speaking as chief guest at the formal
inauguration of the DHA water desalination and power generation plant
and ground breaking ceremony of Phase-II of the project here on Monday.
He had performed the ground-breaking of this project three and a half
years ago.
The President termed the inauguration a very important occasion and
asked other organizations to emulate the example and instal plants for
generating electricity and providing clean drinking water.
