Women to be given representation in Conciliatory Committees: SSP
By Uzma Zafar
ISLAMABAD—Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Kaleem Imam on
Monday directed the police officials to ensure due representation of
women in Public Conciliatory Committees (PCCs) so that domestic disputes
and other women-related problems could be addressed at initial stages.
He made these directions in a meeting here attended by the Chief
Coordinator of Conciliatory Committee, Human Right Officers (HROs), all
Sub- Divisional Police Officers and Station House Officers of Police
stations.
He said maximum representation to women would help to resolve the
domestic disputes and several other women-related problems.
The SSP said “ my objective is to make these Conciliatory Committees
more effective and provide maximum relief to people instead of indulging
in the those cases which can be resolved amicably at initial stages
through a slight effort”.
Kaleem Imam said the services rendered by the members of Conciliatory
Committees and Civil HROs are laudable because they work free of cost
for providing maximum relief to the people and bring justice to them.
The SSP was told that PCCs conciliated 950 cases out of 975 referred
cases during the year 2007 and also resolved the monetary disputes of Rs.
58.07 millions. He said that HROs scheme has been modified with maximum
representation to civilians with their full access to police stations.
He said they are also being encouraged to ask questions regarding
persons called in the police stations.
The SSP also urged the police officials for polite attitude with public
so as to win their support and ensure friendly policing in the Capital.
Kaleem Imam asked the members of PCCs and Civilian HROs to inform the
police about gambling dens, brothels and drug pusher points in their
respective jurisdictions. He assured them for prompt action after their
information and said that those indulged in immoral activities would not
be spared at any cost.
The SSP also appealed the lawyers, traders, representatives of the civil
