Troops to be deployed for elections: Hamid

ISLAMABAD—Federal Caretaker Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz Khan has said that the work to deploy Pakistan army and rangers in different cities of the country, which have been declared sensitive for elections due on February 18, would be started from today (Tuesday).
Talking to media men during visit of National Police Academy Police Line Islamabad on Monday, the caretaker interior minister said, any step would be taken against those who try to disturb law and order during the elections in the country.
Rangers would also deployed along with Pakistan army in the polling stations, he said, adding that, foolproof security would be provided to international observers. Commenting on Charsada suicide attack at rally of Awami National Party (ANP), he said, it was an attempt to sabotage the elections process.
He made it clear despite incident of terrorism the elections would be held on February 18 at every cost. Under the investigation carried out by Pakistani investigation agencies sofar, it has been informed that four person are involved in the assassination on late Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Hamid pointed out. The report of British’s Scotland Yard team and Pakistani investigation team into the assassination of late Former Prime Minister are same, he said, added, the efforts to arrest culprits behind the attack is underway.
The report of Scotland Yard team supports the Pakistan investigation team’s claim that Bhutto died after hitting her head on the sunroof of her car, the caretaker interior minister said.
All the arrangements to ensure peace in the elections have been completed, he said, adding that, no one would be allowed to create hurdle in the elections and if anyone do he would be dealt with Iron hand.
Federal Caretaker Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz Khan rejected the statement of Chief Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) that there is no Mohajir in the Pakistan army and termed it baseless. Earlier, Superintendent Headquarters Taimour Ahmed briefed Federal Caretaker Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz Khan about the National Police Academy. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad Shahid Nadeem Bloch and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam were also present.
