Protest demos must be peaceful: SSP Kaleem

ISLAMABAD—SSP Islamabad, Sayed Kaleem Imam has said that to hold protest rally or demonstration is the right of every member of the civil society, lawyers and traders organizations however, it must be peaceful. He expressed these views while addressing the Chief Coordinators of Consultation Committees, Human Rights Officer and all SPs, ASIs and SHOs here on Sunday.
He said that told a public rally or demonstration is the responsibility of every Pakistan but it must be held in a peaceful manner. But to damage the government property is totally against the law. It is the responsibility of the law enforcing agencies to protect the public property, he added. During the meeting he also reviewed the performance the year 2007 and said that these Consultation Committees have disposed of 950 applications out of 975 and distributed amount of Rs. 5.878 million among the needy persons.
SSP Islamabad also stressed upon the need to make these committees more proficient and urged the participation of women more and more that their domestic and other complicated matters could be easily solved. He also directed the Human Rights Inspectors to perform their duties very well and strictly monitor the accused beside those who visit the police station.
Any kind of injustice and discrimination at police station level must also be avoided, he said that by adding that if somebody have any suggestion or complaint, he must informed the authorities concerned in writing by posting a letter in the complaint box placed at the Police Station. Immediate and proper arrangements shall be made. The performance of Sabzi Mandi Police Station, Baraku Police Station, Aabpara Police Station and Margallah Police Station remained very good in the year 2007.
SSP Islamabad, Sayed Kaleem Iman has also directed all the SHOs to mark out more and more applications and give the priority to solve the issues through Consultation Committees. He urged them to create a sense of responsibility among the masses so that the citizen themselves solve their problems to serve the masses.
Similarly, he urged all the Human Rights Officers to conduct operation in their own areas and informed the local police about the drug smugglers. If local police fails to carry out any action then they must bring it into his notice, I will take notice of the concern SHOs personally, he held.
