No threat of Bird Flu in Pakistan: Ijaz

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, Ijaz Rahim has said
that there is no threat of bird flu in Pakistan.
Ijaz Rahim disclosed these views on the occasion of programme on
“Emergency Life Saving Skills Course” organized by Pakistan Institute of
Medical Sciences here on Thursday.
Caretaker Federal Health Minister said that there is no threat of Bird
flu in Pakistan. A team of World Health Organization (WHO) dispatch by
the government of Pakistan is collecting the samples in Karachi.
He further said that around 0.25 million children of less than five
years died each year due EPI disease while Tuberculosis claimed 66000
lives every year. The annual mortality rate in Pakistan is around 30000
and these diseases are more fatal than Bird flu but unfortunately nobody
is giving heed to this menace, he added.
Similarly, he said that entire world is busy in attempting to overcome
other deadly disease but we as a nation fear from a disease, which does
not exist in Pakistan, he held.
While talking about the “Emergency Life Saving Skills” he said that
government is providing resources to all the governmental hospitals in
order to tackle with emergency crisis properly.
President himself also directed to save more and more life in emergency
crisis. Thousands of lady health workers have so far been trained in
this connection.
