Centers to be set up for elderly persons: Minister

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Federal Minister for Population and Welfare Dr AJ Khan on Wednesday underlined that Special Community Centers will be set up for elderly persons in the country.
While addressing in a seminar in this connection, Caretaker Federal Minister for Population and Welfare Dr AJ Khan was of the view that elderly persons play a pivotal role in our society and we cannot ignore them at any cost. Minister said that on the special directives of Prime Minister Muhammadmian Soomro, the said seminar has been arranged to create awareness among people in this respect.
He said that soon Senior Citizens Bill which is in the Cabinet at the moment will soon be presented in the Assembly for approval. Federal Minister said that approximately 10 percent of our total population consists of elderly persons who are 70 or above thus they cannot be neglected at any forum.
On the occasion, Federal Minister for Women Development, Social Welfare and Special Education Barrister Shahida Jamil said that we often neglect elderly people when they are retired from their duties thus thinking they are a burden on our society.
She was of the view that not only Government but Private Sector must also play its due role in this respect. She further said we must learn from their experiences as they have huge experience in their respective fields.
She added that Government must take apt measures for all the elderly persons of the country.
