By Saad Ahmed

ISLAMABAD—In addition to wheat and flour situation in the country the Federal Food Committee (FFC) here on Wednesday decided to also review ghee and cooking oil situation in the country on regular basis.
The FFC meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senior Member National; Diaster Management Authority (NDMA) Shaukat Nawaz Tahir. The meeting expressed satisfaction over the current flour supply situation and noted that all the areas were being provided enough stock and price of the commodity was also stable now. It was also informed the bids to smuggle flour to Afghanistan from NWFP and Balochistan were foiled and that stern action was also taken against those involved in selling the commodity at higher price. Besides the representatives of four provinces, the meeting was attended by representatives of Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Rasngers, WAPDA, Utlity Stores Corporation, AJK Food Department and Oil and Seed Development Board.
Deputy Secretary Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives (MOIP) in his presentation said that there was no shortage of edible oil/ghee in the country and added that the hike in price of these commodities was due to continuing increase in the price of palm oil in the international market. He informed that the palm crop was badly effected by floods in Malaysia which had resulted in increase in its price in the international market. He informed that per month consumption of ghee/cooking oil in Pakistan was around 200,000 kg.
