By Fakhar Alam

ISLAMABAD—Secretary Election Commission Kanwar M. Dilshad has made it clear that Provincial Governments is responsible for maintenance of law and order in the country instead of election commission of Pakistan.
The nazim would be declared ineligible to continue his office if found interfering in the election process, he said this while talking to Private TV Channel on Wednesday. The Political parties should avoid character assassination of anybody, he said, adding that, election commission cannot interfere in judicial matters
It was the responsibility of Former Government to assess the character of Nazim because they knew that assemblies are completing their tenure in 2007, he said. Now the issue of Nazim has also been left for election commission, he pointed out.
Election commission wants to hold elections in peaceful environment, he said, adding, all Political parties are part of political process and they should avoid character assassination of each other.
Any complaint has not yet been received against any Nazim regarding usage of govt machinery in election campaign on behalf of any political party and trying to effect electoral process, he disclosed.
Election commission has responsibility to ensure its code of conduct instead of maintaining law and order situation in the country, Dilshad concluded.
