FFC meets today to review high rates of cooking oil, sugar
ISLAMABAD—A meeting of the Federal Food Committee has been summoned
today (Wednesday) on the directives of President Pervez Musharraf.
The meeting would be chaired by Lt. Gen. (retd) Farooq Ahmad Khan and
would review the situation arising out of escalating prices of cooking
oil, sugar and flour. The meeting has been summoned on the directives of
the President Pervez Musharraf, who has ordered that the prices of
essential items of use of common public be stabilised. In view of this
the mill owners of sugar, cooking oil and flour mills have been also
summoned. Sources told that FFC would ask the mill owners to subsidise
the rates of the daily use of items and would also seek an explanation
as to why these prices were increased. Moreover, the sources told, that
the flour mill owners would be directed to ensure ample supply of flour
at subsidised rates to the markets and would be questioned as to why the
shortage still exists despite the fact that they are being provided with
