Proposal to enhance validity period of Capital driving license: SSP
By Uzma Zafar

ISLAMABAD—Islamabad Traffic Police is considering to enhance the validity period of driving licenses from three years upto 10 years. “ There would be three different categories for validation of licenses i.e five years, seven years and 10 years keeping in view the convenience of the applicant,” Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Muhammad Zubair Hashmi told APP.
He said the work load from ITP would be reduced by extending this validity period more than three years and performance of the force would also improve.
He rejected the claim that traffic police was imposing fines excessively and without justification after a government decision that 25 per cent share of fine would go to the concerned officer. He said that ratio of challans per day had not increased adding that challan ratio is same as compared to the previous period.
“ In response of such public perception, I only say that I am not seeing significant increase, because per day average is almost same,” he said adding that convenience of the commuters is our top priority instead of teasing them on roads. “ Yet, traffic policemen have not started getting this 25 per cent share,” he added.
The SSP said that challan tickets are not issued as punitive measures but the objective is to maintain road discipline and ensure safe road environment in the Capital. Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has constructed 112 watercourses and additional 100 watercourses are also under completion in rural areas.
