Hu Jintao, Chinese Government and the snow storm
By Makhdoom Babar
President & Editor-in-Chief

WHILE the western media is portraying a completely indifferent picture of situation, emerging out of the deadly snow storm in People’s Republic of China, the Chinese government, under the able leadership of President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, has come out with a rapid and solid response to the prevailing deadly snow storm, not just to secure threats to the economy but basically to bring a comprehensive relief to the stranded people of the effected parts of the county. This rapid response, where proves that how prepared the Chinese government is to tackle even the untraditional threats and dangers, there it clearly proves that how much the Chinese leadership cares for the people of China.
In a very unprecedented move, Premier Wen Jiabao, personally visited a Railway Station and apologized to the stranded people there for the inconvenience that was caused to them because of the unexpected snow storm while they were scheduled to rush to their hometowns to celebrate the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year. Many other top level Chinese leaders showed the similar gestures.
The Daily Mail believes that by reacting in such a spectacular manner, the Chinese leadership has set an amazing example to be followed by the leaderships of the rest of the world and particularly by the leaders of the developing States. The Chinese leaders have shown that how to feel for the people and how to make the people feel that their leaders share all their joys and sorrows and pains and gains just the way they feel.
It remains a fact that the deadly snow storm has caused massive damages in at least 160 counties and cities of Central China while the economic loss is calculated to be around US $7.5 billion, yet, the way the Chinese leadership has shown a rapid and effective response with main focus on bringing the immediate relief to the general public, it is highly commendable and touching. The way the relief and rescue work was carried out by the Chinese government in the areas of Hunan, Hubie, Guizhou, Guangxi, Jiangxi and Anhui, it clearly reflects that the Chinese leadership was much concerned about an immediate relief to the People and the repair of economic losses was the secondary concern. The establishing of a ‘Command Centre’ to deal with snow disaster to restore the supply of coal, oil, electricity, transportation and food to bring an immediate relief to the effected people is a wonderful proof of the importance of common man to the Chinese leadership.
China is no stranger to natural disasters , yet the heavy snow storm that strangled the country over the past couple of weeks would be remembered for a long time for some four reasons, the scope of storm, the duration the impact and the rapid and solid response to it by the Chinese leadership.
The Daily Mail believes that this natural disaster has in fact come as a blessing in disguise for the people of China and the Chinese leadership. This snow storm has given an opportunity to the Chinese leadership and the people of China to prove to the world that they can handle with ease such calamities. #It has also proved the visionary and far sighted leadership qualities and preparedness of the Chinese leaders who had a comprehensive and foolproof strategy to handle the untraditional threat like snow storms, earthquakes floods etc while they otherwise are always prepared to meet the traditional threats. The Daily Mail do hereby salute the People of China who stood firm to face this challenge with a full confidence in their leaders.
