Minister reviews vaccine production at NIH

ISLAMABAD—Federal Caretaker Minister for Health, Mr. Ijaz Rahim,
reviewed the vaccine production performance of National Institute of
Health.
The units pertaining to measles and polio are under process through PSDP
scheme of up-gradation. While expressing satisfaction, the Minister of
Health emphasized that NIH was not meant to be a vaccine-production
factory. He said its basic role is as a protector of Public Health. It
coordinates vital national public health programmes. It was state of the
art laboratories in polio, HIV-AIDS and other disciplines. It trains
essential paramedic manpower. The Minister urged the NIH to develop its
framework under Vision 2030.
The units pertaining to measles and polio are under process through PSDP
scheme of upgradation. A five-year comparison of remaining vaccine is
provided here below.2003,2004,3005,2006,2007 Anti Venom Serum in 2003
was 260,700 mls, in 2004 246,140 ml, in 2005 225,960 mls, in 2006
226,990 mls and in 2007 was 203,790.
Anti Rabies Vaccine in 2003 1,953,600 mls, in 2004 1,114,140 mls, in
20051,275,000 mls, in 2006 1,593,100 mls and in 2007 1,150,200 mls
Tetanus Toxoid Vaccine 436,410 doses in 2003, in 2004 Nil , in 2005 Nil,
in 2006 2,372,00, in 2007 2,092,820 doses
Typhoid (TAB) Vaccine in 2003 263,400 ml in 2004 308,100 ml, in 2005
320,950 mls, in 2006 302,200 mls, in 2007 320,450 ml. Typhoid Cholera
Mixed (TC) 866,400 ml in 2003, 2004 nil, 2005 850,650 mls ,2006 306,550
ml and 2007 307,550 ml. |
