By Ali Imran

ISLAMABAD—General Manager, Sui Northern Gas Supply Company Limited (SNGPL) Islamabad Region, M. Ismael Paracha said on Friday that gas supply to CNG stations have fully been restored in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. All the CNG stations have been divided into seven zones and every zone would be supplied gas after 72 hours, he told APP.
He said gas supply was disconnected to some CNG stations in the federal capital. Now the action had been taken for ensuring smooth supply of gas to CNG stations. The General Manager said CNG was supplied to vehicles in Islamabad last evening from these stations, where queues of vehicles were seen waiting for their turn. CNG supply from all the CNG stations have been fully restored on Friday.
Meanwhile, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Managing Director A. Rashid Lone has that closure of some Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, NWFP and Punjab was aimed at providing smooth gas supply to domestic users.
Talking to PTV, he said recent wave of severe cold has increased gas usage among domestic consumers and this step has to be taken to maintain balance between demand and supply.
Only those units have temporarily been closed which were located in congested population and consuming major part of supply, ultimately affecting domestic consumers, he said.
The SNGPL MD said 275 CNG stations were closed in different cities of NWFP and Punjab, which would remain closed for three days, adding after this another batch of 275 units would be closed for three days and this cycle would continue till February 10.
At present the country is facing shortage of 700 million cubic feet gas. To a question, Rashid Lone said the closure of CNG stations was in accordance with the agreement signed between CNG stations and SNGPL that in case of such situation their supply would be curtailed.
