India to
launch Israeli military spy satellite
NEW DELHI—India is expected to launch an Israeli spy satellite by an
Indian rocket in the first quarter of this year. Media reports quoting a
senior Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) official said in
Visakhapatnam, on Saturday, the military satellite “TechSAR€” would be
launched the ISRO’s workhorse rocket, the Polar Satellite Launch
Vehicle, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.
The spy satellite has the capabilities to take clear images of earth
even in cloudy conditions. It will be Israel’s first synthetic aperture
radar (SAR) imaging satellite, which can take sharp pictures of sub-metre
resolution to boost its intelligence gathering capabilities.
The launch of the satellite was expected in September last but it ran
into some “technical difficulties.” —Agencies |
