SCBA to devise strategy for release of top lawyers
ISLAMABAD—Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) here Friday announced
that it would devise a strategy for the release of its president and
other former office bearers in a meeting at Peshawar on Jan 13. Briefing
mediamen, SCBA Secretary General Amin Javed said they consider the house
arrests of its president Aitzaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Tariq Mehmood
as illegal and unconstitutional.
He said however, they would not challenge their detention in any court
of law. Amin Javed said besides, they would hold meetings with foreign
delegates to apprise them about the situation.
“To create public awareness about the recent situation, SCBA will run
judicial buses from all parts of the country,” he added. Secretary SCBA
said their boycott of the courts will continue and a decision about its
continuation or otherwise would also be decided in the next meeting.
He warned that appropriate action would be taken against lawyers who
fail to abide by their decisions.
He also expressed grief over the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and
said SCBA consider it an attack on country’s solidarity.
SCBA Vice President Akhtar Khan, Additional Secretary Abdul Khurshid
Awan, Zubair Khalid and Mussarat Hilali were also present during the
