British envoy barred to meet Aitizaz

LAHORE—Following US ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Peterson, UK High Commissioner Robert Brinkley was also not allowed to meet President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Aitzaz Ahsan who is under house arrest.
Robert Brinkley alongwith his associates arrived before residence of renowned lawyer Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday but they were not allowed by Police authorities to meet President SCBA on the directives of Home department Punjab. The Police authorities adopted a stance that no one can meet President SCBA without permission of home department Punjab and judicial order. However, he held talks with spouse Bushra Aitzaz and son Ali Aitzaz and condemned house detention of Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan. UK High Commissioner also refused to speak before the media for not allowing him to meet President SCBA.
British High Commissioner in Pakistan Robert Brinkley called on PML central leader and provincial president Ch Pervaiz Elahi here Thursday at the latter’s residence. During the meeting, they discussed current political situation and other important issues including the general elections. The British High Commissioner praised the development work of the PML government especially reforms in health, education and other social sectors and told Elahi that during the last five years, record reforms were seen in different sectors in the province carried out by the government of Pakistan Muslim League.—Agencies
