NHA urged to strive for timely execution of ongoing projects

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Communications Barrister Professor
Habib-ur-Rehman on Thursday urged the National Highway Authority (NHA)
to strivehard to accomplish timely and quality execution of ongoing
communications projects as they are directly related with the economic
stability of the country.
This he said while presiding over a high level meeting of the National
Highway Council here Wednesday in which matters relating to
developmental plans of National Highway Authority (NHA), its performance
and administrative and financial affairs were taken into account in
detail. He emphasized that the pace of progress achieved under the
visionary leadership of the President must be maintained to find a
respectable place for our country in the comity of nations.
In his opening remarks Barrister Professor Habib-ur-Rehman expressed the
resolve of the caretaker government to hold free and fair elections
under dynamic leadership of President Pervez Musharraf and caretaker
Prime Minister Muhammedmian Soomro. He said that interest of the country
comes first and foremost. The council encouraged undertaking of the up
gradation of Karachi-Hyderabad Super Highway as Motorway(M-9) project
through innovative financial modes. The Council expressed satisfaction
on expanding scope of NHA and a need for capacity building of the
institution to meet challenges of its enhanced portfolio.
The Council in this regard also accorded approval to Phase-1 of the
capacity building measures of NHA. The Council endorse that the
futuristic financial plan of NHA should be pragmatic and based on the
principle of self- sustainability. The Council suggested that
economically and commercially viable projects may be dealt by the
Authority through its own resource generation mechanism in addition to
accomplishing Govt. mandated projects. |
