SC revokes suspension orders of Police officials
ISLAMABAD—The Supreme Court on Wednesday revoked the suspension orders
of the officials of Islamabad police and administration and referred the
matter to the concerned department to settle the issue.
These officials were suspended on the order of apex court as a result of
the scuffle between lawyers, journalists and police in front of the
Election Commission office in Islamabad on September 29, 2007. At the
outset of the hearing of the suo-motu, the Attorney General Malik Abdul
Qayyum said that on a suspension of a government employee, an inquiry
has to be completed within two months. He said special permission is
sought for another month if inquiry is not completed in the period.
He said if inquiry does not complete in three months, the suspension
order stands revoked. The Attorney General said in this case, neither
inquiry was conducted nor any special permission was sought after lapse
of two months. The court, therefore, referred the matter to the
concerned departments either to restore the concerned officials or
launch a departmental inquiry against them.—Online
