MP is force of tomorrow: Sajid

ISLAMABAD—Secretary Communication Sajid Hussain Chatta has said that the National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) is the only department, which can be compared with any modern police force of the world.
He said this, while addressing a ceremony held in NH&MP headquarters during a briefing arranged by the department.
He said that the dedication shown by the NH&MP has full depth inspite of so many obstacles and bottlenecks but we have to keep our vision on tomorrow saying that although the Motorway police is the police force of today but we must ensure that should also be a police force of tomorrow.
He further said that we must further enhance the capability of his force to keep pace with the upcoming challenges adding that in near future, the international traffic will use Road Network of Pakistan, there fore we must make proper planning to meet the future challenges.
Driving licensing system of Pakistan should be revised on modern lines as we cannot allow any driver to drive on road without driving license and to become a cause of fatal accidents, he maintained.
Earlier, Inspector General National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Muhammad Raffat Pasha in his briefing told Secretary of Communication that when the Motorway Police initiated, the fatalities rate per ten thousand vehicles in Pakistan was 18.7%, where the India was 23% while Norway and the USA has the lowest ratios of 1.2% and 2.1% respectively.
He further told that at present, the Motorway police is policing on M-2, M-3, M-1, M-5 (from Peshawar to Karachi) and N-10 (Coastal Highway from Passni to Gwadar) while policing on RCD Highway wil be started in February 2008 adding that NH&MP is providing 2700 helps daily.
NH&MP has also successfully reduced the highway crime by 85% and more than 300 run away, kidnapped and lost children were also recovered during the last year and were handed over to their parents.
The Secretary Communication appreciated the performance of the department and desired that the same level must be sustained at all cost.
