5 miscreants killed in SWA

RAWALPINDI—Five miscreants were killed and 20 arrested when the troops retaliated and launched an operation supported by artillery fire on suspected militants’ locations following the abduction of four security forces personnel near Ladha Fort (SWA) by miscreants on Tuesday.
According to ISPR sources, a Jirga was convened on the request of the local elders, which decided to implement cease-fire for next 24 hours. Meanwhile, situation remained calm in North Waziristan Agency. The sources said that security forces have started sweep and search operation on suspected militant locations in Matta and Kabbal on Tuesday.
Curfew in Swat has been relaxed from 7 am to 6 pm., except in Kabbal and Matta where curfew will remain imposed till termination of search and sweep operation by security forces, today. Curfew in Kabbal and Matta has been relaxed from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. after successful operation by security forces in the area.
During the operation in Matta and Kabbal today, 27 militants have been apprehended, including two local commanders, Muhammad Naeem and Toti Khan. Moreover, huge quantity of arms and ammunition has also been recovered which include grenades, kalashnikovs, rifles, pistols, Motorola communication equipment and rounds of different caliber. The apprehended militants are believed to be close associates of Maulana Fazal Ullah.
The sources said that curfew has been imposed in Parachinar. Intermittent firing continues between the two rival factions. Meanwhile, Hangu Jirga is making an attempt to convince the two rival factions to a cease-fire and end violence.—Agencies
