PBC demands President to step down immediately
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has demanded of President Pervez
Musharraf to step down immediately and pave way for the formation of
national Government at the center and in the provinces through consensus
of all political parties.
The demand was made in a resolution passed by the PBC in a meeting held
on Tuesday.
The PBC in connection with the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, failure
of Government to provide security to her, occupation of office of
President by Pervez Musharraf unconstitutionally and inability of
Election Commission of Pakistan to hold free and fair election has
passed a seven-point resolution.
The resolution demanded that President Pervez Musharraf should step down
immediately paving way for the formation of national Government at the
center and in the provinces through consensus of all political parties.
The judiciary of November 2, 2007 be restored forthwith and all judges
so restored be facilitated to resume their duties and functions without
any let or hindrance.
A judicial enquiry into the assassination of the former Prime Minister
of the country should be conducted under the supervision of the deposed
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.
The Chief Election Commissioner should resign forthwith and new Chief
Election Commissioner be appointed and Election Commission be
reconstituted in consultation with all the political parties to hold
free, fair and transparent elections, the resolution demanded.
The lawyers throughout the country shall continue their movement for
restoration of the judiciary of November 2, 2007 with greater vigour and
determination. PBC in its resolution also declared Mohtarma Benazir
Bhutto as “martyr of democracy”.—Online |
