Capital Police get hold of crime in 2007

ISLAMABAD—Islamabad Police was successful in combating crime during the year 2007 in the federal capital as a significant decrease was witnessed in the rate of dacoities, thefts, mobile phone snatching, and burglaries in the capital.
However, a slight increase was observed in the rate of registered cases, besides the fact that the police successfully busted the criminal gangs and overcome criminals effectively during the year.
As many as 4424 cases were registered in 2007 as compared to 4130 in 2006,the police sources said.
In all 218 gangs of criminals were busted in the year and 612 members of these gangs were arrested. Among these gangs, 98 gangs comprised of two individuals, 71 gangs comprised three members while 46 gangs comprised of four or more than four criminals.
During the year, 83 proclaimed offenders and 260 court absconders were arrested while 488 alleged criminals were arrested for possessing illegal weapons. Five klashnikoves, 53 rifles, 31 guns, 354 pistols and 41110 rounds were recovered from them.
In the year 2007, 336 drug-pushers were arrested and 234.486 kilograms charas, 14.440 kilogram heroin, 9.170 kilogram opium and 5494 bottles of wine were recovered from the nabbed criminals.
Moreover, 107 murder cases were registered out of which 76 cases were traced.Out of these cases, the highest number of cases were registered with Shahzad Town police station and the tally stood at 25 cases.
About 128 cases of attempt to murder, 219 hurt cases were registered i88 cases under Zina/Kidnapping Ord, 129 cases of fatal road accidents, 121 cases of non-fatal road accidents, 17 dacoity cases, 202 robbery cases, 41 day burglary, 100 night burglary cases, 184 general theft cases and 379 car theft cases were registered in various police stations of the Capital.
Out of 379 car theft cases, 104 cases were traced and 50 cars were recovered along with arrests of 55 auto-thieves.
The valuables stolen from the different areas of the Capital were worth Rs. 34,19,77,089 while the recovery value was about Rs. 5,85,21,732.
The SSP Kaleem Imam said the federal police was extensively engaged in controlling the crime ratio.
Despite the fact that population of the capital is increasing fast the federal police is making untiring efforts to control crimes even with limited resources and force, he added.
