RAWALPINDI—A condolence meeting was held here Monday under Rawalpindi Bar on 4th day of 5-day mourning in connection with assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
Meeting was presided over by president High Court Bar Sardar Asmat Ullah Khan advocate. Bar secretary Syed Intizar Mehdi, joint secretary Shahbaz Rajput and others addressed the meeting. The speakers said martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto is a historical tragedy. President Musharraf Pervez should step down forthwith, they demanded.
They held it was tried to create justification for postponement of elections through assassination of Benazir Bhutto but such conspiracy on the part of government had failed following the announcement by PPP leadership to participate in the elections. PPP had proved its history was full of sacrifices.
The meeting expressed condolence with the bereaved family of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and prayed for eternal peace for departed soul.
The bar president announced that lawyers would observe “Youm-e-Nijat” today on the call of Punjab bar council. The decision to observe “Youm-e-Nijat” has been taken because of retirement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry.
